Introduction

The Faculty of Science and Technology (FOST) is one of the academic faculties of Purbanchal University, dedicated to providing quality education, promoting research and innovation, and producing competent professionals in science, technology, and other related disciplines. Established in 1994 under the Purbanchal University Act, 2050 (1994), the Faculty has played an important role in the development of higher education in Nepal.

FOST began its academic journey in 1996 by introducing the three-year Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) program in Biratnagar, one of the pioneering computer application programs in Nepal. In response to the evolving needs of the IT sector and higher education, the program has subsequently been upgraded to a four-year program and is currently offered as Bachelor of Computer Application in Information Technology (BCA IT). The Faculty has expanded its academic portfolio in response to the growing needs of society, industry, and the nation. It currently offers undergraduate and graduate programs in areas including Computer Science, Information Technology, Agriculture, Veterinary Science, and other related fields.

Currently, FOST offers a diverse range of four-year undergraduate programs in Science and Technology and two-year postgraduate programs, following a credit-hour and semester-based academic system. The Faculty operates its academic programs through its three constituent campuses and forty-three affiliated colleges across Nepal. FOST is committed to creating a dynamic learning environment by emphasizing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, where students can develop critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving abilities, professional competence, and entrepreneurial skills.

Research and innovation are integral components of the Faculty's academic mission. FOST encourages faculty members and students to engage in research, interdisciplinary collaboration, technological innovation, and knowledge exchange. Particular emphasis is placed on emerging areas of science and technology and on research that addresses local, national, and global challenges.

Through quality teaching, research, innovation, industry collaboration, and community engagement, FOST aims to contribute to the advancement of science and technology and to prepare graduates who are competent, ethical, socially responsible, and capable of contributing to sustainable national development.
